Mum's Satay Ayam

This is another Loak Embok Embok - Satay Ayam you can either use Pork or Chicken. Mum would add Doan Limau Perot...makin the dish smell heavenly.........

You would just need chilli, lemon grass, shallots, shrimp paste, candlenuts for the rempah. Pound them to a paste startin with the hard ingredients. Add peanut oil to the kwali sampay panas (till its hot) throw in a bruise lemon grass and add the rempah and tumis (saute) till it "pecah minyak".

Once the rempah is ready add your pork and chicken continue to tumis. Add doan limau perot. Pour 1/2 a cup of chicken/meat stock and continue to tumis. Season with salt to your taste.

This dish actually uses coconut milk but for health reasons mum omitted. Happy Tryin

Mama Rosa

This year Gunung Sayang presents its twentieh production titled "Mama Rosa". The play will be staged on the 13 and 14 October at The Victoria Theatre tickets are available at Sistic outlets.

Bibik Soon Neo, a widow and grandmother, sheds her old image and adopts a modern lifestyle, calling herself Mama Rosa as she favors to be known. But the name "Rosa" can be punted as "Rosak" meaning "Spoil".

Her daughter, Theresa, and daughter-in-law, Lilian, both being conservatively natured, frown upon Mama Rosa's new lifestyle. Whereas, her son Bernard particularly, and son-in-law, Robert, accommodate and revel her new image, with granddaughters, Margaret and Barbara, adding further spice to domestic bantering. Alls well that ends well, as Mama Rosa's "mysterious lover" turns out to be a former neighbourhood friend's youngest son, who at her joyous Peranakan style birthday celebration, is revealed as courting her granddaughter, Margaret.
